The New Olympics

Posted on 05/08/2024 by Daniel

The original Olympics were based on many fighting skills and as such all the events had a strong physical element. In the new Olympics, having become more benign as a culture over the 2,000 years, we had an art category though one of the organisers won the sculpture medal. We also had poetry. Today we see people firing guns which is, obviously, still on the war theme but these weapons are small compared to some behemoths and not all that energetic. Just about every Olympian uses their eye muscles.

I would like to see more art in the Olympics and the whole things move from its war footing to a thoughtful footing but even as I say that I realise it is impossible to divide artists, it is so much more simple to jump higher and run faster. The Olympics really is, as all sport, for the simple minds.
