When I was following my first general election in the UK I stayed up late to listen to the returns and the first was way up in Scotland and Labour won. The commentator then said that this meant nothing as they were a small constituency, usually racing to be the first to declare a result. Wasn’t he ever right as the Conservative party romped home.
Today the labour party has picked up hundreds of seats but the figures are showing an interesting fact: the conservative party lost this local election round the Labour party did not win it. The only true revolution in the political landscape of the UK will be when we have proportional representation. It was also interesting to see British Muslims voting about Gaza, not what was in the best interests of the British people.
There’s a warning for the future.
