We have to wonder

Posted on 20/04/202420/04/2024 by Daniel

why nature created aggression. The problem for her is that once she creates something and it survives, getting it to survive in the world it creates without the skills that helped it survive, is impossible. There is no cut off valve and any amelioration of aggression would take hundreds of years. In fact the drive seems to be to go from specificity to aggression, not the other way around.

And this matters because to face  an antagonist as Gandhi did is an effort of will and supreme dedication to one’s ethics. Most people if hit either ask why, are gripped in fear or get angry. Very few act in any other way. And that is where we are in the world of men – always ready to join an army or a group to go out and kill, injure and maim. They have no desire to think differently and thought is the only mechanism we have to limit what nature has made us.
