This was the first:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nJanuary<\/p>\n<p>The atoms in the soil which grew this tree,<br \/>\nMight once have been a Brontosaurus&#8217; skin,<br \/>\nAn early mammoth, horse, a chimpanzee,<br \/>\nOr men who dreamed of mining Cornish tin.<br \/>\nSome planets from a Universe must grow &#8211;<br \/>\nWhose life from stars is seeded in the seas;<br \/>\nWhere our existence is the ebb and flow<br \/>\nOf trees to people and people to trees.<br \/>\nOne day I shall be part of a forest<br \/>\nWith Bluebells and moss for my family<br \/>\nFor the atoms within me cannot rest<br \/>\nAs long as the earth lacks a single tree.<\/p>\n<p>And though you will not recognise me quite<br \/>\nStill, wrap your arms around, and hold me tight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 1998 my dear fiend Annie Ovenden asked me to write a poem to go with each of twelve paintings of a Beech Tree in Rilla Mill through the months of the year.
