I never liked the taste of alcohols and loathed the smell of beer. I also never trusted as a teenager friends getting so drunk they vomited or lost\u00a0 motor-functions. As I grew older I was always the one who held a glass of wine in his hand all evening and once or twice a year I night drink a glass – especially if I was going to have to take part in the ritual of toasting someone. I tried to find out what the attraction was by drinking brandy or liquors which seem to me to be mostly sugar. But I have come to understand the essential need for stressed and highly wound people to be able to relax.<\/p>\n
