Recently the elections started in the UK and every day the reporters are out talking to people and following the candidates. On the day, the comments or events are given a weight by the reporters – most notably here the D Day celebrations – and made small or big immediately. There is no percolation of the events into the general public and then a report on what they think. The reporters make the decision ‘oh this was big’ and that is repeated by the public for days.<\/p>\n
This is not the same thing as debates, or asking people how they will vote, also based on months if not years of reporting- but a decision taken by news desks. Gone are the days when someone would say ‘he left to do a TV debate’ and then wait for the public reaction.<\/p>\n
