There is a long poems of which most people who know it remember the first three stanzas. It is very beautiful and in its way reflects much of what I think of poetry:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are the music-makers,<\/span>
\nAnd we are the\u00a0<\/span>dreamers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of dreams,<\/span><\/span>
\nWandering by lone sea-breakers,<\/span>
\nAnd\u00a0<\/span>sitting<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by\u00a0<\/span>desolate<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>streams.<\/span><\/span>
\nWorld-losers and world-forsakers,<\/span>
\nUpon whom the pale moon gleams;<\/span>
\nYet we are the\u00a0<\/span>movers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and shakers,<\/span><\/span>
\nOf the\u00a0<\/span>world<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>forever, it seems.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With\u00a0<\/span>wonderful<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>deathless\u00a0<\/span>ditties<\/span><\/span>
\nWe\u00a0<\/span>b<\/span>u<\/span>ild<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>up the world’s\u00a0<\/span>great<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cities,<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd out of a\u00a0<\/span>fabulous<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>story<\/span><\/span>
\nWe\u00a0<\/span>fashion<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>an empire’s glory:<\/span><\/span>
\nOne man with a dream, at pleasure,<\/span>
\nShall go\u00a0<\/span>forth<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>conquer<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a crown;<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd\u00a0<\/span>three<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with a new song’s\u00a0<\/span>measure<\/span><\/span>
\nCan\u00a0<\/span>trample<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>empire<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>down.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span>
\nWe, in the ages\u00a0<\/span>lying<\/span><\/span>
\nIn the\u00a0<\/span>buried<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>past of the earth,<\/span><\/span>
\nBuilt\u00a0<\/span>Nineveh<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with our sighing,<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd\u00a0<\/span>Babel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>itself with our mirth;<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd o’erthrew them with\u00a0<\/span>prophesying<\/span><\/span>
\nTo the old of the new world’s worth;<\/span>
\nFor each age is a\u00a0<\/span>dream<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that is dying,<\/span><\/span>
\nOr one that is\u00a0<\/span>coming<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to birth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
