There is a belief in the west that religiosity pertains to loving-kindness and thoughtfulness for others, to peaceful co-existence and prayer. And there are many who exhibit this kind of ‘glorious’ life but religiosity also contains the vanity of one’s belief (my god is the (only god) the ego of the believer (my god chose me) the perpetuation of ones purity and statements of domination. This second kind of religiosity is the first cousin to fascism and is found in Islam in the modern era as well as some areas of militant Buddhism and Hindhusim. A hundred years ago is prevailed in Christianity but thankfully they saw through it at last.
The Chinese are slightly different. They are far more philosophical in their egos – they just believe they are suspended between earth and heaven and have to look down on the rest of us.
