When I wrote A Brief History of Lies as an essay over a decade ago I never had any reason to suppose lying in the human community would get worse. Natural growth of lying as more people joined the race I got, but the level of lies within the population has grown exponentially with the Internet. And it seems it is mirroring the decades of lies from leaders around the world. Does anyone any longer believe that any leaders have been honest about why they decide upon the paths they take their countries? Are we all unaware of the lies they give us about other countries, about our own countries, about why we do what we do?
The lies gain momentum because we are willfully blind preferring to live a lie for 80 years rather than risk being dead at 30 for the truth.
