with thousands of characters and slightly differing endings. It is a story that has traversed the world a hundred times and appears in every tribe, every country. It is of a hero fighting a monster. In modern times the monster is a machine, isn’t magical but is still diabolical because it wants to eat human beings. It used to be a village, a town, a country but now it is the world. The obvious conclusion is that this monster has always been a part of the human psyche – how better to explain tyrants and dictators; but less obvious is that this monster is actually all of us. The peace loving and the war mongering working together to pretend there is a hero; pretend there is a victory; pretend there is an ending to this story.
