This battle of the Hungarians with the Ottomans in the second decade of the 16th century was a loss for Hungary and the division of their country between Austria and Turkey. It is heavily taught in their schools and has become part of their vernacular and knowing this gives me a very good idea of why they loathe having Muslims come to live in Hungary. And one would like for them to forgive and forget except millions of Muslims haven’t and when competing with nationalist beliefs it is best to come up with some of your own. Nationalism always go to war. It is the savage part of the human character. But when you meet a savage you need a good cage, or a stronger weapon.
