Thirty years ago the forestry commission undertook to plant at least `0& of its forests with hardwood trees instead if all softwood trees. In the local woods they have been stripping out the softwoods recently and replanting. Softwoods grow faster and if managed to grow straight they make the government more money, but they are not native to the UK so a lot of animal species suffer habitat loss. While others find a new place to hang out they never had before. More a see-saw than swings-and-roundabouts. Still, though muddy, they are people free spaces and that’s enjoyable.
