The scenes of the fires raging in Los Angeles are horrific. That only ten people have died is testament to the care taken in planning responses to such events. No one has talked about the numbers of animals burned to death, but then few care about them. The loss of libraries in a country fighting ignorance of nationhood and history is, of course, devastating, I don’t know if any works of art worthy of remembering have been lost. What I do know is that money will be forthcoming to rebuild much of it and assistance will be provided for the homeless for the immediate future.
I wish that were true of the whole world when these things happen.
