The Shame of Absolutes

Posted on 25/10/2024 by Daniel

The world is messy. Nature is messy. Not in the sense of chaotic, there are huge amounts of order, but in terms of the admixture of characteristics and outcomes. Shapes and types of emotions. Expectations and some downright luck. And into the messy nature we think we can parachute absolutes and have them make sense. Countries do not exist but in our imaginations, tribes are our invention, god is our invention and purpose is our invention.

Somehow the thought that we are miniscule and irrelevant in the universe upsets us. Messy, chaotic, brutal us. Vanity will do that to the animal brain we possess.
