Here in Cornwall even now as autumn begins  it is difficult to get away from crowds. Why would I want to get away from crowds? Because they are not here for the benefit of the county but to forget where they have to live and work. In the years since the 1970s when tourism really took off, bungalows and indifferent housing has blighted every village, roads have funnelled people to campsites and holiday parks, beaches are a mess of plastic, fishing has had to be rescued and house prices are beyond the reach of the local people.

At dawn the beaches are empty because the tourist loves crowds and is basically here to laze. It is quiet with just the gulls and the sea for company and the occasional dog walker. It is Cornwall fifty years ago.
