Generational changes

Posted on 15/07/2024 by Daniel

Listening to Round the Horn, a radio comedy programme in the UK of the 1950s, and then listening to a roast of modern celebrities on TV it is obvious that humour has not just released itself from a wish to be sexually provocative but not daring to be anything but suggestive, to today when crudity is the humour and penis and vagina jokes a must. And there is no metaphor it is very much in your face – which I am told is the right place for penises and vaginas.

As a lover of satire and word play I find the lack of innocent suggestion rather boring. It is lazy. It requires no real thought and is so universal you can edit and rehash the same jokes time-and-time-again.

Subtlety is always funnier.
