Fascism

Posted on 06/07/2024 by Daniel

Because the Second World War was such a defining moment in European history when people learn about it they assume fascism started in the twentieth century. They are wrong. Fascism is best defined for its one party tyranny, but it also includes secret police, deep financial corruption of the higher echelons of power, a sinister use of death  with suspension of habeas corpus and a highly manipulative foreign policy. As such we can see threads of it in every monarchy, empire and communist system and in most religions. We can see it in ancient Assyria, ancient Persia, ancient Rome. We can see it in slavery and racism. We always see it in war.

That is why the French election is so desperate a fight and why individuals like Farage, Trump, Putin and Braverman are so dangerous.
