I have my own version of finding role models.
When I was 10 years old going to CofE schools in the UK I told my mum a joke from the playground which, it turned out, was anti-Semitic. I was told by her that ‘we don’t say jokes like that Daniel, because we are Jews’.
Of course I wanted to find out exactly what that meant and the only place you will find Jews in abundance in a Christian school is in religious studies class.
So you may imagine my astonishment when I found them all and not only that, that they were the reason for school assembly, the songs, the prayers, and my teachers actually talked about a Jewish man being god on earth.
And that is also when I began to understand absurdity.
