Opinions on art have always been divided. There are many contemporaries of artists we hold is esteem who were denigrated in their day for any number of reasons. That is why men like William Hazlett are so special because it takes a particular kind of brain to see the worth of modern writers and artists, sculptors and musicians, who are actually talking to generations as yet unborn.
I would consider myself utterly brilliant if i had that gift. Sadly my only opinions on contemporary writers is based on how they made their names rather than anything else, which is not always a good guide to actual worth though to be honest, it comes close. I am certain the Booker Prize is deeply compromised and the Nobel often only political. That said I best let the ages decide.
