I often myself trawling through You Tube and other sites to see what nonsense human beings are up to these days and today I found the host of videos purporting to prove there are time travelers. The evidence seems to be classy sunglasses in 1940s photographs, the possibility of a woman actually talking to a mobile phone in an advert for a silent movie in the 1920s. I have to say after seeing those two I didn’t go into the secrets of NASA and proofs of an afterlife – proof given by those most knowledgeable of people – scientists.
It all reminds me of Däniken and the book Chariots of the Gods in which a mixture of myth, poor observation and ignorance on the skills of people thousands of years ago all went to ‘prove’ aliens had not only visited the Earth, they had help build our ancient cities and used battery power to light our way.
There is a tendency amongst people to think we are the most modern humans who have ever lived when actually, every human who has ever lived has been a modern, we just have more gadgets. Just as Victorians had fridges and kept food over winter when nothing grew in England much, so in the 1940s they had sunglasses and thousands of years ago they knew how to spend years hewing stone blocks so they fitted together exactly.
But then they too had their myths and they needed them just as You tubers seem to.
