I listened years ago to readings from a Victorian Butler’s diary. He took it upon himself to record everything in the household for a whole year and he stuck to ot. His last entry was how fed up he was with the task but what he left us is a snapshot of life, the visits, dinners, family, servants day-to-day for one entire year. Historians love it. All over the UK when we dig to build we find old dumps where masses of glass bottles lie, some in good condition, mostly empty. Showing how they were made, manufactured and used. A host of reminders of the industrial revolution and daily needs of an entire people.
Small can be great.
