Devolution

Posted on 19/05/2025 by Daniel

I actually wonder why the essence of culture has to bend the knee to money – and I know that, of course, it does not but the artists do. Why would you begin an examination of the human condition, which is the essence of all art,  and limit yourself immediately to the diktats of a system? systems being the antithesis of free thought and free thought the foundation of art. The glib answer is that one has to eat, but there is a better answer. Money is fascinating, it rules the imagination even before the artists realises their talent. Money appeals to vanity far faster than anything else, and it generates a desire that seems to answer all other desires.

The sadness is that when artists gain wealth as some do, they do not deal with it in a liberated, talented way but do what everyone else does – invest in their ego.
