Many years ago I took a class each week in farming grasslands and cereals to learn to be more practical. In one of the first classes we were given ten things to look at when buying a new field, among which were irrigation, chemical make up of soils, access, drainage, plough panning etc. I listed the ten very quickly only to find I had placed access last, soon realising it should be first. This was where my lack of practicalities let me down, because from the first I was in the field looking at growing.
It is a lesson I learned that I always need a practical mind next to my own because in handling an idea the idea itself is all I need, but that doesn’t get things done or move projects forward. For most of the world the idea is the start of the work not an end already gained by existing. It is difficult for someone like me to be reigned in my always needing the funding. That is a limitation on the power of the idea. I have often wished people realised all they actually need is energy and determination.
