I have just listened to an American defence attorney and a veteran investigator for the Venice Beach police about being a suspect. Both men said that the instinct of the innocent is to answer questions asked by the police but the advice is to never say a word. The reason they gave is very simple: you do not know the evidence in the case and therefore, you cannot know the implications of even telling the truth. That sounds ridiculous if you are innocent you are innocent: but both of them said innocent people have been sent to Gaol before now.
They both said no matter how helpful you want to be if you are being questioned as a possible suspect you say nothing except to your attorney. I then listened to a video on how our smartphones are able to listen to us 24/7. I doubt I’ll ever speak again.
