If you don’t know something is going on, you can hardly have an opinion about it. Or you may have an general opinion but you can’t have any in-depth knowledge of the facts. So who decides what we get to know? If the individual isn’t taught to use libraries and differentiate facts and fictions in what they hear on the Internet, then they are wholly at the mercy of others. Those others will be podcasters, journalists on the news sites, forums where specialist topics are discussed – and we can have another conversation about why one ends up in particular forums – and live news outlets.
It is interesting to note how many people view a debate on a matter of moment, and how many like a facebook post on the subject and how many books on the topic have been sold.
The numbers are all different.
