Fascism

Posted on 12/05/202412/05/2024 by Daniel

When I was at college I understood that anyone you didn’t agree with very quickly became a fascist. Fascism has been with us forever which is why it is absurd these days to continually talk of left and right in politics. A left leaning right wing thinker will have socialist ideas of society and a right leaning left wing thinker will be indistinguishable from  an outright fascist thinker.

Similarly calling someone a Nazi when you dislike what they are doing blurs the lines between what you understand of fascism and a particularly nasty industrialization of the fascist ideas. The determination of the Nazi was to eradicate anyone they considered undesirable and work to death anyone they considered lesser beings than themselves. Which is why the legal  definition of genocide was invented – it wasn’t written after the Napoleonic wars or the colonial wars of empires but after 1945.

The attempt by the Arabs to describe the Gaza war as genocide feeds three kinds of minds: Those who hate war and for whom all war in genocide, those who hate Jews and dislike everything Israel does, and those with no historical viewpoint or learning.

Urban war is vile. War is vile. Genocide demands the perpetrators want either or both as part of a process of extermination. That is not what is happening in Gaza.
