A Poem at Last

Posted on 08/05/202408/05/2024 by Daniel

I wrote a sonnet a few days ago after not writing for years. It isn’t very good, in fact I would suggest it doesn’t work well and fails after the sixth line but I finalised it. For the past two years or more I have started a couple of lines and giving up, nothing was coming or developing the theme. I had to be satisfied with a good first line and nothing more.

I wonder if this is emotional or just the end of words for me? I was never one to think much about inspiration but I realise that having another person to encourage you, usually without trying, to write, paint, sculpt etc is far more important for the creative process than I ever realised. It is the wish to create that is only the beginning. The need to cerate for this particular person, to rise to the challenge of living they represent, that gives you the finished work.

Art realty is a response to others.
