were allowed teach.
The Greeks gave us what we consider to be the foundation of our modern ideas of nations, if not the foundation of nationhood itself being ingrained with some democratic values (they did vote for some stuff).
Teaching thought is interesting because as adults they believed in deep discussion and were impressed enough with thought on its own to hold thinkers in high esteem. The only way to get such people is to allow the brain to go its own way, and that is not how we teach. We teach rules and we attempt to modify all behaviours into pacificity.
Teachers should be allowed to go where the developing brain wants to go, not where government wants it go. Otherwise in two thousand years from now they will still be talking about the Greeks but not talking about us at all.
