Steven Jobs

Posted on 08/10/2011 by admin

Having always used computers for work and been sceptical as to the efficacy of most gadgets in my life as they seem to be part-and-parcel of a lifestyle that is always on the move (ironic since the computer age was supposed to make us efficient without going out of our homes) I have been surprised that so many people have been so saddened by the death of Steven Jobs for this fact alone: he helped popularise and invent part of the modern world.

I am certain sure his death is as tragic as all others and brings with it depths of sadness for many people but I am surprised at this out pouring for a business man. I cannot think when other smart technologists die the feeling will be the same amongst a public that did not know them. Like A N Wilson I find it over-the-top and can only conclude that we have become so attached to these gadgets, that they are part of who we think we are, and that somehow they are lessened by his death and therefore we mourn.

Either that or they all know something about him I don’t because when it comes down to it all his company’s  inventions will vanish within a year to be replaced by the next generation.
